Administrative/Tribunal Law
Canadian Governments have been moving more and more towards the use of Administrative Tribunals rather than Courts for interpreting and applying statutes across a wide range of topics. While often touted as being more user friendly to deal with than the Courts themselves these tribunals can still be intimidating and each has their own rules and processes, making it difficult to know what to expect. Sometimes they get it wrong and we can help you explore your options for when they have made a decision which adversely affects you.
Administrative Tribunals common in Alberta include Municipal Subdivision and Appeals Boards, the Human Rights Tribunal, and the Residential Tenancy Dispute Resolution Service.
Other applications of Administrative Law include applying to and challenging decisions made by regulators like the Alberta Energy Regulator.
